Flagship projects - „Prioritized measures and activities“
As part of the Civil Peace Service programme, Weltfriedensdienst (World Peace Service) is supporting Musasa – a local NGO in Zimbabwe which is setting up peace clubs (a club consisting of 15 women and 10 men per district) in six districts of one province with a total population of approximately 48,500 – in order to assist and support women affected by violence and to document cases of gender-based violence. Five times a year, the members of these peace clubs are given training on trauma counselling, legal advice and conflict management, while also learning about the roles, responsibilities and restrictions of local authorities and institutions. The clubs are therefore able to focus on providing advice and support to women regarding how to exercise their rights.
The project for the Management of the Sundarbans Mangrove Forests for Biodiversity Conservation and Increased Adaptation to Climate Change in Bangladesh trains marginalised members of the community, and in particular women, on how to better represent their interests in co-management bodies. The project provides particular support to women in managerial positions in an effort to increase their influence on decision-makers, while also calling for the composition of these bodies to be 50% female. The project also raises awareness with a view to enhancing acceptance of gender-related issues among the population and the members of these bodies.
The civil society women’s network FEMNET (The African Women’s Development and Communication Network) is being given financial support of 100,000 euros. Workshops equip young women’s rights activists in Africa with the skills to take part in political dialogue, negotiating processes and advocacy. Activists are also given support for putting forward their positions at regional and international level, and for promoting improved sexual and reproductive health and rights, and opposing child marriage and FGM.
