Flagship projects - „Prioritized measures and activities“
In order to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1325, the programme Enhancing Women’s Leadership for Sustainable Peace in Fragile Contexts in the MENA Region supports UN Women in strengthening the presence and voice of women in national dialogues and in the implementation of peace processes. At least three events are planned, namely in the MENA region, in Germany and in New York.
The NGO AMICA receives support to help female Syrian refugees and women and girls in Libya who have experienced sexual and gender-based violence in the Syrian civil war and in Lebanon access direct counselling services and gender-specific trauma healing. Training is given to multipliers so that they can provide regular and independent assistance to self-help groups.
In Jordan, a new project has been launched with the aim of improving psychosocial support for refugees and the local population in host communities. All measures are designed and implemented in a gender-differentiated manner as men and women have had different experiences of violence and women in particular have, to a large extent, been the victims of sexual violence within the context of the crisis in Syria.
In Iraq, Medica Mondiale receives support for improving specialized advisory services for women and girls affected by gender-specifc violence and for improving their protection. Approximately 1,200 women in camps for displaced people are receiving direct counselling. Local experts get training and local structures for psychosocial counselling are strengthenend.
